As part of Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools’ commitment to inspire all to grow and thrive, we continue to invest in infrastructure improvements that foster safe, sustainable, and innovative learning environments. Our mission—to support students, staff, families, and the broader community—drives every decision we make, including the maintenance and enhancement of our physical campuses.
This summer, the District completed a number of strategic construction and renovation projects aligned with our goals to Connect, Create, and Challenge. Each improvement reflects our belief that the spaces in which our students learn and grow must evolve to meet the needs of a thriving school community.
District-Wide: Enhanced Safety Systems
We are implementing an integrated safety technology system across all campuses to support quicker, more accurate responses during emergencies. This system will improve communication with first responders and help ensure the continued safety and well-being of all who learn and work in our schools.
Gurney Elementary School
Main Entrance Enhancements: The front office entrance was redesigned to improve visitor access and better serve parents and community members. Flooring and new access doors at the gym entrance were also added.
Water Infrastructure Improvements: A new water well has been approved for the Gurney campus. Pending EPA design and installation approval, the well will provide redundancy and resilience by supplementing our current water systems. This should be installed and come online in the next six months.
Athletic Facilities
Harris Stadium Visitor Grandstands Renovation: We’ve completed a structural repair and renovation of the visitor bleachers at the 7–12 campus. This work ensures safe, long-term use of the grandstands for years to come.
Turf Replacement at Harris Stadium: The existing field turf—now 10 years old—will be replaced in late fall 2025. This upgrade supports our high-usage athletic programming and ensures a safe, high-quality playing surface for spring sports and beyond.
High School Campus
Outdoor Learning Expansion: As part of our ongoing emphasis on outdoor and flexible learning environments, we’ve added new seating areas near the High School Commons to create more opportunities for collaboration and fresh-air learning.
Water Station Upgrades: Thanks to a generous grant from the Chagrin Falls PTO, we are replacing outdated fountains with filtered, chilled water bottle-filling stations, promoting sustainability and student wellness.
Window Blind Installation: New blinds at the High School and Middle School improve natural light control, supporting a more comfortable and focused learning environment.
Flooring Improvements: We completed routine carpet cleaning and resilient floor resurfacing, while also replacing worn flooring in key areas throughout the 7–12 and Gurney campuses.
HVAC & Energy Efficiency
This summer marks the completion of our five-year HVAC improvement plan, a portion of which was funded through grants. All District buildings now feature:
A modern building automation system that monitors and adjusts for fresh air quality and consistent temperature control, meeting ASHRAE standards.
A unified, energy-efficient HVAC system that allows for real-time alerts and adjustments, ensuring comfort and reducing energy waste across all schools.
Sustainability & Waste Reduction
At the Middle School, we installed a new dishwasher—partially funded by a $25,000 sustainability grant from the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. This initiative supports the school’s transition from disposable to reusable food service items, advancing our commitment to environmental stewardship.
Paving and Pavement Maintenance
Ongoing care for our parking lots and driveways is guided by a five-year pavement improvement plan:
This year’s work included asphalt repairs, crack filling, and seal coating across all campuses.
Major asphalt resurfacing was completed at the Transportation Facility, extending the life of the pavement without full replacement costs.
Additional seal coating and surface maintenance were performed at the Intermediate School, Gurney Campus, and multiple lots at the 7–12 Campus.
Looking Ahead
These projects represent our District’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, educational excellence, and the well-being of our entire school community. As we improve and modernize our facilities, we remain focused on creating environments where students, staff, and community members can grow, connect, and thrive.
Thank you for your continued support of Chagrin Falls Schools. Together, we’re building a stronger future—one project at a time.
