Chagrin Falls Senior Anna Wardrop Recognized as Rotary Student of the Mont

Chagrin Falls High School senior Anna Wardrop has been recognized as the May Rotary Student of the Month for her leadership, academic achievement, athletic success, artistic talent, and dedication to serving others.

Throughout high school, Wardrop has built an impressive record of involvement and accomplishment both inside and outside the classroom. She has served as a Link Leader, co-founder and co-president of the Baking Club, captain of the varsity swim team, and a member of the Blood Cancer United Student Visionary Team. Through the fundraiser, Wardrop helped raise nearly $6,000 in seven weeks to support blood cancer care, research, advocacy, and education.

Wardrop said leadership has taught her the importance of empathy, honesty, resilience, and selflessness. “Freshmen tend to be nervous around upperclassmen, so on the first day we meet them in our Link Groups, it’s important to put yourself in their shoes,” Wardrop said.

Her commitment to service has extended throughout the Chagrin Valley community. Wardrop volunteered weekly in a first-grade classroom at Gurney Elementary School during the first semester of the school year and has also volunteered with the Gurney Garden Club, summer camps, Art by the Falls, the Chagrin Valley Film Festival, and other community events.

Working with Blood Cancer United became especially meaningful to Wardrop because cancer has impacted members of her own family. “Working with BCU changed my perspective because I felt the difference I was making with each donation I got,” Wardrop said. “Reaching out to neighbors, family, friends, and even strangers throughout Chagrin made me realize how generous people really are.”

Wardrop credited her parents, Sarah and Richard Wardrop, for inspiring her passion for helping others through service. She said her mother volunteers weekly at the Bainbridge Food Pantry and her father works as a physician, both modeling selflessness and compassion.

Academically, Wardrop has earned numerous honors, including induction into the Cum Laude Society, AP Scholar recognition, Academic All-American honors in swimming, the College Board National Recognition Program School Recognition Award, Science Student of the Month in AP Chemistry, and Tiger of the Semester.

“One of my proudest academic accomplishments is getting inducted into the Cum Laude Society,” Wardrop said. “Throughout high school, I have pushed myself to take challenging classes and succeed in them by maintaining all As, passing my AP exams, and earning recognitions and awards from my teachers.”

Wardrop also reflected on overcoming challenges in math and discovering a new passion through AP Statistics. “My biggest challenge in school has always been math, which is ironic because taking AP Statistics this year has inspired me and my future career interests a lot,” Wardrop said. “Learning about statistics has given me a new interest in something like a research analyst position as a psychologist.”

In addition to academics and service, Wardrop has excelled as an athlete in elite club gymnastics, varsity swimming, and club flag football. As captain of the swim team during the 2025-2026 season, she earned Academic All-American, All-Ohio, and All-Conference honors while qualifying for the state meet and earning three varsity letters. “I would not be the person I am without being an athlete,” Wardrop said. “Swimming pushed me every day to show up for myself and take every day as a chance to improve. It also taught me that one mistake does not define you. What really matters is how you respond.”

Wardrop has also developed a strong passion for photography and visual arts. Several of her drawings, paintings, and photographs have been featured in the Chagrin Falls High School art show. She said photography allows her to capture beauty in everyday moments and explore creativity in unique ways.

After graduation, Wardrop will attend The Ohio State University, where she plans to major in psychology and minor in photography before pursuing graduate school to become a clinical psychologist. “My dad went to Ohio State for medical school, so I have been a Buckeye for life,” Wardrop said. “I want to become a psychologist so I can help people through their hardest times and offer them a safe space to share their feelings.”

She also hopes to continue pursuing photography opportunities in college, including sports photography, while continuing to learn, connect, and lead throughout her experience at Ohio State.
