Our 4th graders brought history to life! ✨📚 Students researched influential figures and showcased their learning through an interactive Living Wax Museum featuring prominent problem solvers. Students researched their problem solver, wrote an informational essay, created a presentation board, and then embodied their chosen person—ready to share their story with the press of a button! Families were invited to explore the museum last Friday in the CFIS cafeteria, meeting remarkable figures and hearing firsthand about their contributions. What happens when you ask 400 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to share their thoughts about their school? Mr. Howell and the CFIS team embraced the challenge after winter break, and the feedback is in!💭🏫 Using the district's familiar roundtable discussion model, students shared their ideas on everything from academics to arrival/dismissal and recess. A common theme emerged: a strong desire for flexibility, interaction, and more personal choice in their school day. Gurney's 3rd grade STEM class is diving into the fascinating world of simple machines! 🌟 Third graders learned how simple machines, such as levers, pulleys, and wheels, make tasks easier by reducing effort or changing the direction of force. These foundational principles help students understand how the world around them works—building a strong base for exploring more complex machinery in the future. 🛠️✨ After learning about and building several simple machines, students took on an exciting challenge: designing and building compound machines to rescue a tiger! 🐯 This hands-on activity brought physics to life, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
